Single during the Holidays

I know the feeling oh too well. Seeing everyone's post of their special dates, Christmas parties, engagements, how amazing their special someone is and how much fun they are having during this time; and thinking to yourself how much you desire that and how especially lonely you feel during this time. You long to go to a Christmas tree lighting or a special Christmas party all dressed up and holding someones hand but once again you go alone and are asked AGAIN "Are you dating anybody?." You think of all the fun you could have if that were your season and you long for that day to be the present and not the future.

Whether you like to admit or not, this is a true feeling and a true struggle you are going through and for some reason around Christmas it is amplified. Most people desire to be married and desire that security and the companionship that comes with it, its totally NORMAL and ok to desire that God ordained gift of marriage. Where we get in trouble is when we feast on ourselves, whether thinking about ourselves in a "I have it all together" light or in a "poor single me" light we are still thinking of ourselves which is pride. Although it is easy to get stuck in that rut and that self depreciating mood during this time, you CAN overcome and enjoy every bit of this Christmas season.

Instead of looking inwardly at  yourself and your singleness take this time to look around and see how you can serve people. Instead of thinking of all the things you are missing out on, think of all the extra time and affections you have to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a special way during this time. Ask the Lord to show you how you can encourage and bless others. Get some other single friends together and feast on scripture, encourage and pray together and maybe go out and do something to serve a family in need. Take up a challenge with your other single friends to make this time count for the glory of God and keep each other accountable in the attitude of self pity.

Remember "No good thing does He withhold from those that walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11)" if it was a good thing for you to have that godly relationship you are seeking right now, the Lord would allow it. As a "unmarried virgin, is concerned about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit...............and serve the Lord without distractions (1 Corinthians 7:34-35)." Are you using your season to wallow in self pity or are you using it to be concerned with the things of the Lord and honoring Him in both your body and your spirit? This season is a time where you have more time and you have ALL of your affections to seek Christ and the knowledge of Him. Please don't waste this time but savor the moments God has given you and when that very real loneliness comes take those moments to pour out your heart and desire to God and cling to Him not to self pity. If you do this, you won't look back and regret a wasted season.

When your baby doesn't sleep

This is just to encourage the other moms out there who every single night go to bed hoping that they have finally found the right formula and their child will sleep. This is for that very weary mother who is in desperate need of sleep and encouragement. This is for the mother who is tired of hearing the well wishers tell her what she needs to do, that she must not be doing it right, yet she longs to be told she is a great mother and has a wonderful baby even if they aren't a great sleeper. I was this mom.

My precious baby boy had a sweet personality and disposition from the beginning but was not a good sleeper. I read every book, researched for countless hours on the internet or seeking out counsel from other moms and mentors and nothing worked. I was exhausted. I remember during one long night and it hadn't even been an hour since he was up the first time and he was crying; as I got out of my bed I was so upset that he was awake and I was angry I had to get up again. Before I could even make it out of my room the Lord breathed some truth in my heart and I felt as if He whispered "aren't you glad you have a baby to get up with? Aren't you glad that he is an answer to prayer and that he is healthy enough to cry?" WOW that was so convicting! I was too busy being selfish of my sleep to thank the Lord for His amazing blessings in my life. I quickly confessed my sin and asked the Lord to give me a grateful heart even through these difficult circumstances. This is something I am convicted of many many times. Every trial has its difficulty and every trial has its lessons. I remember begging the Lord to show me what He wanted me to learn and then bring me out of this difficult time. One thing that I will never forget is the lesson of emptying of myself. I couldn't do life in what I would define as "well", every time someone would ask about how he sleeps I would have to swallow my pride and realize that its ok to not have a good sleeper. The Lord used this time is a GREAT way to humble me.

When my child doesn't sleep my life is no where near perfect, actually when my child does sleep its not :). But through this trial I learned that I don't have to have my life together, I can come broken, exhausted and crying to the feet of my Savior and beg Him for strength. This season was a time of desperation and exhaustion but I feel like the Lord needed to break me of my self and of my pride that I would have it all together and be a wonderful mom. Instead of feeling like I was a great mother I felt like I was in great need of the Father to teach me His ways and show me how to be a mother each and every day.

So if you are in the season, take heart and learn from the Lord. Sit at His feet during this exhausting day when you and the baby are crying and learn from HIM. Cast your care on Him and know that He wants to hear about your day and your struggles and your heart. He wants you to lean in and know Him more through this.

And ps if you were wondering my baby magically started sleeping through the night at about 8 months old. We hadn't done anything different it was just time. I was so grateful for the goodness of the Lord. Be encouraged, don't be burdened down if everything in the book doesn't work for your child and remember they haven't even read the book ;)

Media Detoxing

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, texting, Snapchat--these are just a few of the social media outlets that are consuming our time, thoughts, and ultimately our generation. If we have a break in our day while waiting for something, we quickly scroll through Facebook--never mind that it's the tenth time that day. Consumed and entertained by what other people are doing in their lives, we're often not taking the time to live our own lives. We get so busy filling every gap and pause in our day that we don't have time to be still, to enjoy a brief moment, or to listen to God's gentle prodding for us to put the phone down and talk to someone in the waiting room next to you.

Sometimes we are taking a picture and telling the world about our moment, instead of savoring it. Sometimes we even do certain things just so we can post about it and brag about ourselves in a not-so-obvious way. Do you ever cook an amazing meal or do something incredible for a family member or spouse without telling anyone?

If you think this media consumption doesn't affect you then let me ask you this question: what do your family get-togethers, date nights, dinners, or hang-outs with friends look like lately? Is everyone on their phones? We have become a culture so engrossed in being entertained by what everyone else is doing that we don't have the time or the energy to concentrate on whats important. For instance, in the minutes or hours that I might spend on Facebook each day I could write several hand-written notes of encouragement or read a book, among many other productive things. Now don't get me wrong, I am a BIG fan of social media and how it can be used for good and for the glory of the Lord, but I think that many people, including myself, fall into the trap of addiction with it. The Lord had been convicting my heart over several months regarding media. I kept making excuses and telling myself that I'm not on it that much and that it's not taking away from my family time or my time with the Lord. I was making excuses to avoid the fact that the Lord was convicting my heart and calling me not to take a break or a fast but to challenge the way our family does media in general. He was calling us as a family to a different standard and a different way of thinking and acting. He was calling us to a balance  After confessing this before the Lord as a family, we have begun to ask Him what this media detox should look like in our home. I use the word detox because we aren't getting rid of it, we are just trying to balance and learn to crave something better instead. Is your family consumed? If not, then what are you doing to be intentional to not to let it creep into your family? If you are consumed, what are you going to do as a family to find balance? Honestly, what consumes your thoughts and your days? What or who gets your quiet moments?

We aren't pretending to have it all figured out, we are just finally walking in obedience where the Lord is challenging our family. We are asking Him to show us what this looks like and give us the strength and discipline to follow through. If we have a little here and there its not going to ruin our appetite but if we feast on it all day long our cravings change. We are asking the Lord to change our cravings and teach our hearts to crave more of Him instead. I hope you hear my heart on this subject, and are also challenged and can walk alongside our family as we make this commitment.

Making it through Survivalville

Here are a couple of tips if you are wading through the waters of sleepless nights, sickness, trials or another difficultly that is placing you in the city of survivallville. I feel like our family just got out of this season and then sometimes I think we have other weeks where we are visiting there again, so these are just practically things that helped me along the way.

1) Set goals for each day. Even if it is only 3 little goals and one of them is getting out of bed and getting dressed, it will help you to have something to work towards in the day and will make you feel productive even if you just accomplished one little thing.

2) Let things go that don't matter.  If you were up 6 times last night and feel like you are barely awake and need to nurture and take care of you little one , then its ok that your house doesn't look perfect and you don't have gourmet meals. I remember my husband telling me that he would much rather me get a nap and be rested then have the house looking great. Let your pride and perfectionist go and love on your baby and take a nap WITHOUT guilt. The house will always be there, and will always need something but right now you just need to make it through the day without too many breakdowns ;)

3) Receive help.  If you are anything like me and you struggle with pride then this one is a toughy. When you are exhausted and can barely function and a family member or a close friend offer to help in some way, its ok to take them up on it. People want to bless you and want to help you get through this season. During our 8 months of very difficult sleepless nights, my mother called me one morning and suggested that I bring my sweet baby over to her house and just take a nap there. I took her up on it and she took care and loved on my little mister and I got a wonderful and MUCH needed nap which in turned helped me be a better and more rested mother. Its ok to admit you don't have everything together and that sometimes you need help.

4) Be honest of your struggle. As believers I feel like we can pretend that we always have it together, and then we crowd out the room with yourself and leave no room for the Holy Spirit and other believers to encourage us. As you are honest of your difficult time you will be amazed that you are not the only person going through it. There is comfort and encouragement knowing you are not alone. During our difficult eating and sleeping trial I had a sweet friend who was also having sleepless nights and we were able to pray for each other and send texts of encouragement along the way.

5) Don't numb it with media. Yes you are tired. Yes its easier to scroll through facebook then read your bible or just sit and hear from the Lord or just rock your baby without the phone in your hand. But too much social media can cause you to have a much more difficult time as it can sometimes breed jealousy, discontentment and suck your precious time where you could rest. Be cautious and seek accountability from your husband or close friend if this is something that you struggle with.

6) Cry out to the Lord and lean on HIM for everything! He is our source of strength. Scripture even says the youth grow tired and weary but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength...... (Read Isaiah 40:30-31.) So ask the Lord for strength and make sure during this difficult time that you are asking the Lord to teach you and learn to depend on Him. During our MANY sleepless months I felt like the Lord would speak so clearly to show me my sin and my desperate need for Him.

Hope this is an encouragement to everyone in survivallville! Your not alone and this soon will pass but don't grudge through it with contempt wade through with hope.

Challenge to Mothers

In whatever you do, whether changing diapers, cleaning up spit up or vomit, cleaning up messes for the 50th time that day, feeding your children once again, responding to your husband, cooking and cleaning the kitchen another time....... DO IT ALL heartily as for the Lord rather than man, knowing that it is Christ you are serving. (My adaptation of Colossians 3:23)

And let your words, your responses to crying and fights and whining and complaining and other difficulties of daily life be seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.
(My adaptation of Colossians 4:6)

I don't know about you but I am SO grateful for the Word of God that speaks directly into my heart, no matter what I am going through. Recently as I was reading through the book of Colossians, I thought about what an incredible truth and challenge these principals are to everyone, especially to mothers. Hope you are encouraged and challenged too!

Mommy Guilt or Pride?

People using the phrase “mommy guilt” are ever present in this culture as a feeling of guilt when they perceive they aren't being the best they can be, or are doing life differently than other moms. I was having a conversation the other day with my husband about this; he simply said, “that’s not guilt, that’s pride.”  Ouch! That was painful and convicting for me to say the least. There is SO much pressure on mothers today, to be a domestic goddess, to be gorgeous and fit, to have an incredible social life, to volunteer for community or church events, and not to mention just to be an overall creative and sensational wife and mother. The problem that lies with our mentality is the comparison and pride. We desire our life to look perfect and when we have illness, financial difficulty, a hard pregnancy, or other difficulty we feel guilty about not having it all together. It stems from one thing--PRIDE. We want to have it all together.

Where are the women of today who will be honest enough to say, "I don’t have my life together but I am trying each day to be the best I can be with the Lord’s strength and direction"? Stop feeling guilty over the pressure of “requirements” from other people, and start savoring in the goodness the Lord has given you today and not wallowing in the guilt of expectations from others. When we expect too much of ourselves or of others we get caught in this “mommy guilt” nightmare and can’t enjoy the wonderful things we do have.

Remember that each family has their own unique convictions and direction they are going in. Instead of comparing yours and feeling guilty that you aren't doing the same, take pleasure in the way God is leading your particular family and bask in His blessings as you walk in obedience.

Perfecting Motherhood

Perfectly manicured hands, pre-baby body back and feeling good as I finish up my hour-long workout before my baby wakes up. I’m so glad that my husband and I have trained our baby to sleep through the night so I can have time to work out, take a shower, and do my hair and makeup all before the baby wakes up. With a clean house, laundry done, stocked fridge with all organic and healthy food, and meal prep done for the new recipe I’m trying off of Pinterest, I have time to play with my baby. While he takes his nap I have time to sit down for a cup of coffee, have my quiet time, catch up on blogs, and read some of my book. After a three-hour nap he happily wakes up and then contentedly plays with toys while I put dinner in the oven. My husband walks in at 5:00pm (like he does every day) and pulls out flowers from behind his back and says “So glad to be home, babe, you’re looking so beautiful today! Dinner smells great!” and picks up our baby and plays with him. Then it’s bath and bed time and finally time to spend with my husband before we go to an early bedtime so we will be refreshed in the morning.

This is a perfect life, or at least our mental image of a perfect life. THIS HOWEVER IS NOT MY REALITY. Our life could look this way on the outside but in our hearts we could be self righteous, sinful, prideful and judgmental. The Lord is teaching me that A PERFECT LIFE DOES NOT MEAN A PERFECT HEART. It’s in my weakness that He can perfect HIS mighty strength in me.

Through the sleepless nights, no-nap days, blow-out diapers, spit up on my clothes, messy house, simple meals, husband working late, empty fridge, hungry teething baby, and sweatpants the LORD IS PERFECTING MY HEART. He has been patiently teaching me that it doesn't matter what my life looks like on the outside if my heart is not yielded to the sanctification of sweet Jesus. In the days of crying out to the Lord for strength, fighting constantly against flesh, and choosing joy, these are the days that Christ is working in me. This display of dependency on the Lord is more fruitful then having my life together and having no need for my Savior. The 4am prayer/nursing sessions, responding with kindness to a screaming and teething child, confessing the sin of self pity, not comparing my life to my friend’s perfect Facebook status, worshiping through washing the toilets, looking at my body as a tool the Lord has blessed to bring about a baby and not as a stretch-marked milk producer, stopping to pray for patience and control of my tongue; these are moments in my imperfect life that the Lord is perfecting HIS grace and humility in my heart. I have learned more than I have ever imagined through this journey and it’s just the beginning. I am so grateful that God is daily cleaning out the selfishness in my heart and ridding me of my pride through His daily work of sanctification. THIS IS MY PERFECT LIFE IN CHRIST!

The gift of new life

From the onset of the Lord making our family of two we have asked the Lord to guide us and make it known when it was His timing for us to start expanding it. Early in January we discovered we were given a precious gift of life, I was pregnant. When we saw the results we looked at each other in disbelief and shock then continued to cry and pray together thanking the Lord for this new life. The Lord's timing could not have been more perfect. We were in the heat of a difficult trial and the Lord breathed a new life. We were amazed at God's timing and the sweet healing and joyful anticipation it brought. His timing is truly perfect. We are not out of our storm the Lord has us waiting in, but we are joyfully walking through it holding His hand and resting in the fact we know He is at work. Our little boy is a treasure, and when I think about the timing that the Lord chose to place him in my womb I cry and think every good and perfect gift is from above. The Lord knows what we need and how He can refresh our hearts in ways we couldn't imagine. We are so grateful for Lord willing, the privilege to raise a warrior for Christ. As the Lord is forming our little baby we pray that his whole body would be used to bring God glory. Our prayer is that the great Counselor the Holy Spirit will guide us and teach us how to be parents and lead our children in Jesus. Once again another season of waiting and preparing. Grateful that we have the Lord who has blessed us with His word and Spirit.

Life is blowing by fast

Haven't updated this in forever! My life has changed drastically in the last 7 months. Every day is still a journey of waiting on the Lord. This season has been so sweet but difficult too with many trails the Lord has been using to yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness in our lives (Hebrews 12:11.) I feel like I have been learning in a very real way what trusting, depending and waiting on the Lord looks like in this season. No matter where you are in life we are called to have faith in the Lord and trust that He knows what is best.

Here is a summary of the last several months.

Uniting in Covenant Marriage

Honeymoon

Then learning how to be a wife, helpmate and homemaker, its a constant learning experience :-)

Been a sweet season of the Lord sifting out selfishness and using marriage to sanctify our lives. More to come..... stay tuned.

Waiting on the Lord in Engagement

Wow! I can’t believe this is the season of life I am in. It is fun, stressful, busy, sweet, challenging and filled with growth. During this season of waiting I have been learning about myself, serving and learning what scripture teaches on being a wife. My love for the Lord and for my future husband is growing deeper each day, I just long to be his helpmate in life.

This is QUITE the season of waiting on the Lord while experiencing the desire for marriage that is so deep. I think the Lord allows engagement to make me appreciate marriage even more, and the gift and treasure it is. Just like any other season of waiting I am trying to not give into the flesh and instead ask the Lord what I am suppose to learn in the here and now, which most days is very difficult.

I need to remind myself that no matter what season, God is kind in all His deeds and He is near to all those who call upon Him in truth (Psalm 145:17-18.) No matter if you are single, engaged, or married, life is full of seasons of waiting on the Lord and trusting in His character that He knows best. Rest in the truth that God is kind in everything He does and He is near to us as we are in His Word in truth.

I just want to be real and genuine in all of life’s joys, hurts and difficulties. We are all in different seasons and are called to be real with each other and encourage. Remember that no matter what your circumstance and how overwhelmed you may feel the Lord can use you to be an encouragement if you give Him the opportunity.

Hebrews 3:13 ”But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”

Engagement Story

My heart had been so heavy and my journal filled with emotions of desire and yet instructions from the Lord to wait on His perfect timing. My affections were so strong towards Patrick, and Christ kept confirming this love, causing it to grow stronger each day. Waiting had never been so hard. Thursday night, when our nightly conversation ended I felt tears swelling in my eyes; I just knew it was going to be many more long months of waiting. I was temped to give into my flesh like I had done many times by crying, waiting seemed like a long painful season, but the Holy Spirit took over and I decided to just cry out to the Lord, and once more give that desire for Patrick to Christ.
On Friday afternoon we were planning on going to dinner, and spending some quality time together before joining my family for fellowship. My mother being unaware of what Patrick was planning, had chosen that evening because my relatives from up north were visiting, and it was going to be a perfect set up ☺.
We arrived at Carrabas, the location of our first date. He chose this location so we could revisit the beginning of where the Lord had begun our journey seven months prior. Several months ago he shared with me that he had been journaling about our relationship and some day I would read them. After ordering our food, he began to read a couple of those letters just “for fun” These were the most precious things I have heard. They were letters telling me what the Lord was doing in his heart regarding our relationship and how the Lord was fostering a love towards me. They were PRECIOUS! By the last one we both were crying and it was just amazing to see the fingerprints of the Lord and how He had lead Patrick in his pursuit of my heart.
Next he told me that he had to swing by his house and pick up a tool that my dad had loaned him, and this was not suspicious to me. When we got there he said there was something in the back yard that he wanted to show me but I needed to close my eyes, at this point I am still clueless! When I opened my eyes our favorite music began to play, it was dark and the stars were out and there was a flood light on “our swing”. Now this swing was the one from my parent’s house that we had swung many miles on and lots of milestones in our relationship, and it was very special to us. There were rose petals everywhere and one single rose on the swing. He grabbed my hand and said he had one more letter to read to me. This was by far the most precious and meaningful, it spoke of when the Lord confirmed that I was going to be his wife, his helpmate in life and the mother of his children, the letter went on about some other incredible things and then ended with “I am ready to make that step in covenant with you” as soon as he said covenant I knew. ☺ Then he said “Brittany Brummel will you marry me” I said yes and then said oh my word and is this really happening?’ We enjoyed swinging on the swing afterwards and talking about marriage and our house and our swing (my dad had given it to us) and then enjoyed dancing to a special song.
We left there and were able to go to my house and tell all of my family in person and that was such a sweet memory for me. I was so grateful that I could tell the people that mean the most to me in person. Then his parents came over to see us and we all enjoyed the sweet time together.

As I was lying in bed that night, tears rolled down my face as I recalled the Lord’s amazing faithfulness to me. How He had directed each step of the way and blessed and grew our hearts together as we sought His face. He blesses exceedingly and abundantly more than we could ever imagine. I had a new excitement in my heart as I was thinking of all the preparation that lay ahead of me to prepare for marriage. Then it occurred to me what a picture of Christ. Christ is my groom and I am His bride and I need to have this much excitement towards His coming, and work diligently preparing for that time. All I can say is that the Lord is SO faithful and if you trust Him with your heart He will lead it according to His will.

Wedding plans :-)

Sorry I haven't written in a while, I have been crazy busy lately planning a wedding!!!! God is so good and blessed me with an incredible husband. I am about to post our story..........stay tuned.

Wait on the Lord , and you won’t be ashamed

“Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed; Those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed.” Psalm 25:3

Isn’t encouraging to know that no one who waits on the Lord will be ashamed! Even if you endure hardships, people not understanding your heart or view in your circumstance, you can rest assured that the Lord will not put you to shame if you are waiting on Him. But catch what David writes after this, He isn’t just waiting on the Lord but He is SEEKING THE LORD in His time of waiting asking the Lord to…………..

“Make me know Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For you are the God of my salvation;
For you I wait all the day.” Psalm 25:4-5

Lets incorporate this earnestly in our prayers of waiting and
above all SEEK the Lord!

My Father Knows best

I hate to admit and wish it wasn't true but sometimes I get so caught up in life and get my focus so off of the Lord that I actually forget that the Lord knows best. In all seasons of waiting on the Lord and trusting Him with your life, we must give our circumstance to the Lord and trust Him for the outcome. He will always answer with the perfect answer. He will always comfort with the best comfort, and He will always convict and lead our lives in what is best.

"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." Isaiah 26:3

If we desire peace in our time of waiting, lets remember to place our mind (intentionally and constantly) on Christ, and then trust in Him for the outcome. I hope this is a comfort and encouragement to you as it was to me this afternoon. We have an Almighty Father who knows your heart and desires more than ANYONE does, and He has your best in mind, so lets rest and trust in that.

The wedding season begins

This past weekend one of my dear friends got married to a great godly man. Her story and many others are so encouraging about the Lord's faithfulness in all things. She prayed and waited patiently on the Lord and God answered her prayers. Just thought I would share that with all of you, because it is a testimony of how good God is. In your journey of waiting on Jesus through a trial or difficulty remember that God is good and does good (Psalm 119:68) and ask Him to "teach me Your statues" as you are reminded of His goodness.

"I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Your words." Psalm 119:147 This waiting is not a sit around and do nothing waiting, but a time to anticipate, and eagerly seek the Lord. Don't get discouraged or give up, remember to seek the Lord above all else and He will take care of His child.

Busy Busy Busy

To all of my readers( all two of you) I am so sorry that I haven't written in a long time. I have been busy with life and enjoying every second of it. I have been snowed in to my house this week and have been busy spending time in the Word of God and catching up on my reading. There is a lot of things that I am excited to share with you this year that the Lord has been heavily working on my heart with. There are ALWAYS times of waiting, each circumstance is different but it all goes down to putting our hope in the Lord and resting in HIM! I can't wait to see what God has in store and I am excited to be posting more this year! Stay tuned!

Trusting your heart to HIM

Sorry I haven't updated in a long time. Lots has been going on and the Lord is growing and stretching me in great ways as I have entered another season of waiting on Him. I think its not just a seasonal thing but a life thing. We are to constantly surrender our wants and needs and wait patiently on Him. That is so hard for us girls especially! We want to fix the trial or work somehow on it, but the Lord is calling us to a place where we put the greatest treasure we have on the altar before Him and say "Im waiting on you," Knowing that what He has is best. Something Im learning is that I have entrusted my heart to Jesus, and leaving and trusting Him with it no matter what pains, difficulties or joys in life. Trusting that even though my heart may feel like its breaking at times, He still holds it and will heal even the little scratch, or the big break. My beloved Christ holds my heart and I am going to trust Him with all of it! He is so faithful and never changes with his unconditionally love towards us, what incredible truth!

Job 13:15"Though He slay me, I will hope in Him....." I read this verse in my quiet time this morning and found great conviction in it. No matter what difficulties and challenges good or bad we are going through in our life we are to TRUST IN HIM!

"He who dwells int he shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, My God, In whom I trust!" Psalm 91:1-2

Girls Retreat- Waiting on the Lord & finding contentment where He has placed you

This past weekend I was privileged to speak at a girls retreat with a wonderful group of about 45 high school girls. I had been sick all week and was even thinking about canceling on thursday because I felt so horrible. After praying about it I came to the conclusion that it was spiritual warfare and the devil was not going to get victory even when my body felt weak. We left the church and headed straight to McDonalds for dinner, where 2 of our girls fainted, paramedics were called, one girl went home sick and of course sent our schedule out of whack. By the time we got to the camp grounds I was just praying for victory over the weekend that I felt had already been attacked, and asking and expecting God to move. We had a great weekend with sessions on intimacy with the Lord, purity (heart, mind and body), relationships with Christ being our true love and the only one who can fulfill our needs, and then ending with waiting on the Lord.

I totally lost my voice by saturday morning. I knew I was speaking on saturday afternoon and so I didn't talk for two hours and just prayed that just like the Lord provided enough manna for each day for Israel that He would give me just enough voice to get through speaking. He is so faithful and so good to me, because He did just that! I had enough voice to get through my part, and I was so grateful that the Lord blessed me with that :) The Lord is still just working on my heart in so many ways, showing me that waiting on Him is not just a one time thing but a continually surrender no matter what circumstances. Here is a short glimpse of what I taught on

1. In all seasons of life we all have trials, testing, and unknowns. Its during these times that we have a choice to either take matters in to our own hand or rest in the shadow of the almighty, waiting on the Lord and finding contentment where He has placed us.

2. The Journey of waiting is about the growth and lessons along the way. "Its not the end result that matters but the journey that brought you there."

3. I used the story of Abraham and how he waited for 25 years for a son, and it was in those years that He grew with the Lord, believe on Him, and then when he had the most awaited and precious earthly treasure the Lord tested him and showed him that the greatest treasure was the Lord. What obedience, faith and trust Abraham had in the Lord!

Thats just a portion of what we talked about. May you lean and rest on the Lord during your season of waiting on Him. Know that he has placed you here for a reason and a purpose. Be available to grow and be used where the Lord has placed you!
